DU CSAS reorder window — the second chance most students miss
Uniquely among counselling systems, DU's CSAS lets you re-order preferences mid-process using live vacancy data. How the window works and how to use it.
What makes CSAS different
JoSAA locks your list forever. DU's CSAS doesn't: between rounds, DU publishes vacant-seat data and opens a short window in which you can EDIT your preference order before the next allotment. It's the only genuine mid-process correction mechanism in the big three counselling systems.
Most students never use it — because they assume CUET counselling works like JoSAA. The window is short, announced on the CSAS portal, and closes before Spot Rounds begin, after which flexibility narrows sharply.
How to actually use the window
Reorder against the LIVE vacancy display, not prestige folklore. The data tells you which programmes actually have seats left — move genuinely-wanted, actually-vacant programmes higher. A wish ranked above a vacancy-less programme costs nothing; a wanted programme ranked below a filler is the same old misordering mistake.
Set an alarm the day the CSAS calendar publishes. The reorder window is the single most valuable date on it.
Freeze vs Upgrade in CSAS
Same logic as JoSAA's Freeze/Float: choose Upgrade while any higher preference is realistically open — it cannot cost the seat you hold. Freeze when your allotted programme is your genuine top realistic choice.
Asked constantly
Does the CSAS reorder window let me ADD new programmes?
The window is primarily for re-ordering existing preferences; rules on adding programmes vary by round and year — check the current CSAS bulletin. Reordering is the reliably available correction.
Do BHU, JNU and other CUET universities have a reorder window?
Each CUET-participating university runs its own admission process with its own rules. This guide covers DU's CSAS; verify others separately rather than assuming.
When exactly does the window open?
DU announces it in the CSAS round calendar each year, typically alongside vacancy display between rounds. Watch admission.uod.ac.in — dates change year to year.
Counselling rules change year to year — the official portal for your exam is always the ground truth. This guide teaches mechanics, not guarantees.
